OIL SPILL FROM STARAGE TANK IN THE GARDEN
The Challenge
Iduna Ltd were called in to assess the extent of impact from an oil spill in the rear garden of a residential property. Approximately 500 litres of kerosene had been lost to ground from a crack in the heating oil tank, all 500 litres of kerosene was found to be contained in soils beneath and adjacent to the tank. The oil leak had not spread to neighbouring properties.
The Solution to clean up the Oil spill
Iduna Ltd provided 2 options for remedial works to the client. A dig & dispose option was chosen due to the requirement to return the amenity of the property as soon as possible.
The property was protected against damage from the works, using durable boards and herras fencing. Mini-plant was then mobilised to site to excavate and remove impacted soils. All impacted materials were disposed of at an appropriately licensed facility.
Re-instatement following remediation included backfilling the excavation, construction of a compliant tank plinth, and re-turfing of the area.
Duration
This work was conducted over a 5 day period.
